Anxiety Therapy for Women in Evanston, IL

Anxiety Therapy for Women Who Are Tired of Holding It All Together

You may look capable and put-together on the outside while your mind rarely stops on the inside. You’re getting things done, showing up for the people who depend on you, and managing what needs to be managed—but underneath it all, you may feel anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted, or constantly “on.”

At Embodied Healing Counseling & Yoga, we provide compassionate therapy for women navigating anxiety, chronic stress, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and overwhelm.

We offer in-person anxiety therapy in Evanston and virtual therapy throughout Illinois.

You don’t have to wait until you’re falling apart to ask for support.

Specialized therapy for the whole person

Anxiety doesn’t only live in your thoughts.

It can show up in your body, your relationships, your sleep, your decisions, and the way you move through your day. You might notice a racing mind alongside tense shoulders, difficulty resting, irritability, digestive symptoms, fatigue, or the feeling that your nervous system never quite gets to turn off.

That’s why our therapists look beyond symptoms alone and consider the whole person sitting in front of us.  At Embodied Healing, therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in established mental health approaches. Depending on your needs and preferences, your therapist may integrate:

  • Cognitive and behavioral strategies
  • Acceptance and values-based approaches
  • Mindfulness and self-compassion
  • Somatic awareness and nervous-system regulation
  • Attachment-based therapy
  • Practical coping, boundary, and communication tools

Our goal isn’t to teach you how to eliminate every anxious thought or become better at pushing through.  Therapy can help you understand what your anxiety is trying to protect you from, recognize patterns that are no longer serving you, and develop new ways of responding to yourself and your life.

Meet Our Therapists

Is therapy for Anxiety right for you?

You do not need to be having panic attacks—or feel like anxiety is completely disrupting your life—to benefit from therapy.

This support may be a good fit if:

- You feel restless, tense, or perpetually “on.”
- Your mind jumps to what could go wrong, even when things are going well.
- You overthink decisions, replay conversations, or have difficulty trusting yourself.
- You struggle to slow down or rest without feeling guilty or unproductive.
- You take care of everyone else while your own needs keep getting pushed aside.
- You hold yourself to incredibly high standards and rarely feel like you’ve done enough.
- You seem capable on the outside but internally feel overwhelmed, anxious, or depleted..

You may also simply know that the way you’ve been functioning isn’t sustainable anymore—even if you can’t quite explain what needs to change.

You don’t have to keep powering through.

What we support

High-Functioning Anxiety & Perfectionism

Sometimes anxiety doesn’t look like falling apart. It looks like overpreparing, staying busy, being dependable, thinking ten steps ahead, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
High-functioning anxiety can be easy to overlook because many of the behaviors it creates are rewarded. You may be successful and capable while privately feeling exhausted by the pressure to keep everything under control.
Therapy can help you explore the fears and beliefs underneath perfectionism while building a relationship with yourself that isn’t dependent on how much you accomplish.

Overthinking, Worry & Difficulty Switching Off

Maybe your brain always seems to be working on something. You replay conversations, anticipate problems, research decisions, mentally run through tomorrow’s schedule, or find yourself asking “but what if…?” long after you know there isn’t anything more you can reasonably do.
Therapy can help you recognize patterns of worry and rumination, build greater tolerance for uncertainty, and learn how to respond differently when your mind wants certainty you simply can’t have.

People-Pleasing, Boundaries & Burnout

Anxiety can also show up in relationships.
You may worry about disappointing people, feel responsible for other people’s emotions, say yes when you want to say no, avoid conflict, or spend a lot of energy wondering whether someone is upset with you.
Over time, constantly prioritizing everyone else can lead to resentment, exhaustion, and feeling disconnected from what you actually want.
Therapy can help you understand these patterns, practice setting boundaries, communicate more directly, and make room for your own needs without assuming that doing so makes you selfish.

Panic & Physical Symptoms of Anxiety

Anxiety is a whole-body experience.

A racing heart, tight chest, shallow breathing, nausea or digestive changes, muscle tension, dizziness, trembling, headaches, or a sudden feeling of panic can be frightening—especially when you don’t understand why your body is reacting the way it is.

Therapy can help you better understand your body’s stress response, develop tools for working with nervous-system activation, and reduce the fear that can develop around anxiety itself.

What can change through therapy?

Therapy cannot remove uncertainty, stress, or every anxious thought from your life. It can change the way you experience and respond to them.

Through therapy, you may begin to:

- Understand your anxiety rather than feeling controlled by it.
- Recognize when your nervous system is becoming overwhelmed and respond with greater awareness.
- Develop practical tools for worry, stress, and emotional regulation.
- Loosen perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the pressure to always get it right.
- Set boundaries and communicate your needs with greater confidence.
- Reconnect with your values and make decisions based on what matters to you—not only fear or expectation.
- Feel more comfortable slowing down, resting, and being present in your life.

Some sessions may focus on practical strategies you can use right now. Others may involve exploring longstanding beliefs, relationships, experiences, or patterns that contribute to the way anxiety shows up today.
The goal isn’t to become a person who never feels anxious. It’s to build greater trust in your ability to experience anxiety without letting it run your life.

Let's Get Started

How therapy with embodied healing works

1. Reach out

Complete our contact form and tell us a little about what you are looking for, your scheduling needs, and whether you plan to use insurance or self-pay.

You do not need to explain your entire story in the inquiry form.

2. We help you find the right therapist

We will consider your needs, availability, insurance coverage, and therapist fit. We will then let you know which clinician may be a good match and discuss the next step.

3. Attend your intake appointment

Your first appointment is an opportunity for your therapist to learn more about what you are experiencing, your history, what is most important to you, and what you hope will change.
You and your therapist will begin identifying goals and discussing an approach that feels supportive and realistic for your life.

4. Continue at a pace that supports your needs

Therapy is often scheduled weekly, particularly at the beginning, though frequency may vary based on your needs, availability, clinical recommendations, and insurance coverage.
Your therapist will continue checking in with you about what is helping and where you would like the work to go.

Cancellation policy

Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you.

We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice when canceling or rescheduling an appointment. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice and missed appointments are charged a $100 fee.

We understand that unexpected situations arise. At the same time, adequate notice allows your therapist to offer the appointment to another client who may be waiting for support and honors the time the clinician has reserved for your care.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is high-functioning anxiety?

“High-functioning anxiety” is not a formal diagnosis. It is a term often used to describe people who experience significant anxiety while continuing to function well—or appear to function well—in their daily lives. Someone with high-functioning anxiety may be successful, organized, dependable, or achievement-oriented while privately experiencing excessive worry, perfectionism, overthinking, difficulty resting, physical tension, or fear of making mistakes.

Do I need to have an anxiety disorder to start therapy?

No. You do not need a particular diagnosis—or any diagnosis—to reach out for therapy. You may simply notice that worry, stress, perfectionism, overthinking, or the pressure you place on yourself is affecting your quality of life.

How can therapy help with overthinking?

Therapy can help you understand what drives your overthinking and recognize the difference between productive problem-solving and getting caught in cycles of worry or rumination. Rather than trying to force yourself to “stop thinking,” you can learn new ways of responding to uncertainty, uncomfortable emotions, and the urge to figure everything out.

Can therapy help with perfectionism and people-pleasing?

Yes. Perfectionism and people-pleasing often develop for understandable reasons and may be closely connected to anxiety, self-worth, relationships, or past experiences. Therapy can help you explore those patterns while practicing boundaries, tolerating disappointment or uncertainty, and developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Can anxiety cause physical symptoms?

Yes. Anxiety activates the body’s stress response and can contribute to symptoms such as muscle tension, changes in breathing or heart rate, stomach discomfort, headaches, trembling, sweating, dizziness, and difficulty sleeping. If you are experiencing new or concerning physical symptoms, it is also important to discuss them with an appropriate medical provider.

What if my life is going well but I still feel anxious?

This is common. Anxiety does not always correspond to whether something is objectively “wrong.” You can have a fulfilling relationship, successful career, supportive family, or otherwise good life and still experience anxiety. You do not need to justify why you are struggling in order to seek support.

Do you offer virtual anxiety therapy?

Yes. We offer virtual therapy for clients located throughout Illinois, as well as in-person therapy in Evanston.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and UnitedHealthcare/Optum. Participation may vary by therapist, and coverage depends on your individual plan. We also offer self-pay services, out-of-network superbills, and a limited number of reduced-rate appointments.

How often will I attend therapy?

Many clients begin with weekly sessions so there is enough consistency to build momentum and establish a therapeutic relationship. Frequency can vary based on your individual needs, goals, schedule, clinical recommendations, and insurance coverage.

You deserve care, too

You do not need to have the perfect words for what you are experiencing.

You do not have to know whether it is anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing, stress—or simply the weight of carrying too much for too long.

And you do not have to wait until you are in crisis or until anxiety starts getting in the way of your ability to function.  We can begin with where you are.
