Counseling for High-Functioning Anxiety & Perinatal Mental Health in Evanston, IL

Serving clients in Evanston, Chicago’s North Shore, and throughout Illinois and California

Support for Women Navigating Anxiety and Overwhelm

Do you find yourself taking on more than you can handle — even when your mind and body are begging you to slow down?

Do you say yes when every part of you wants to say no?

Do you lie awake at night replaying conversations, overthinking decisions, or mentally planning tomorrow before today has even ended?

If this sounds familiar, you're in the right place.

At Embodied Healing Counseling & Yoga, we help women who “look fine on the outside” but feel overwhelmed on the inside — the high achievers, helpers, caregivers, and perfectionists who are tired of carrying everything alone.

Anxiety is exhausting. But with the right support, you can feel more grounded, capable, and connected to yourself again.

High-Functioning Anxiety: What It Looks and Feels Like

Many of the women we work with experience:
→ Feeling restless, tense, or perpetually “on”
→ Persistent worry or dread, even when things are going well
→ Racing thoughts or difficulty concentrating
→ Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
→ Overthinking or replaying conversations
→ Chronic muscle tension, headaches, or fatigue
→ Panic symptoms (rapid breathing, sweating, trembling)
→ Feeling like you “should be handling it better”
→ Taking care of everyone else before yourself

You don’t have to keep powering through.

Therapy can help you understand the roots of your anxiety, build nervous-system-based coping tools, and create more ease in your daily life.

Perinatal & Maternal Mental Health Care (Pregnancy to Postpartum)

Pregnancy, postpartum, fertility journeys, and identity transitions

Pregnancy and postpartum bring a mix of joy, responsibility, fear, and massive identity change — and it’s completely normal to struggle during this time.

Up to 21% of birthing people experience moderate to severe anxiety or depression during the perinatal period. These challenges can begin during pregnancy, immediately after birth, or months later — and they don’t go away on their own.

We support women navigating:
→ Overwhelm and emotional ups and downs
→ Anxiety, panic, or intrusive thoughts
→ Guilt or pressure to “do it right”
→ Difficulty bonding with your baby
→ Feeling disconnected from who you were before becoming a parent
→ Identity shifts, role changes, or resentment no one talks about
→ Fear of being judged for asking for help
→ Thoughts about running away, shutting down, or wanting to escape
You’re not failing, you’re human. And you deserve support, compassion, and a safe space to land.

FAQs About Counseling in Evanston, IL

What’s the difference between high-functioning anxiety and “regular” anxiety?

High-functioning anxiety often looks invisible from the outside. Many women appear organized, successful, and put together, but internally feel overwhelmed, restless, perfectionistic, or on edge. You may find yourself overthinking, struggling with sleep, or feeling like you’re “always on.”

We help women understand the root of their anxiety and build mind–body tools to slow down, feel grounded, and create more balance.

Do you offer virtual counseling if I don’t live near Evanston?

Yes. We provide online therapy for clients anywhere in Illinois and California.

If you’re local to Evanston or Chicago’s North Shore, you can choose virtual or in-person counseling depending on what feels best for you.

How do I know if my postpartum anxiety or depression needs professional support?

If your worry, sadness, irritability, intrusive thoughts, or emotional overwhelm are getting in the way of sleep, bonding with your baby, daily functioning, or your sense of self, support can help. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are common and treatable. Reaching out is a strong, courageous first step. You don’t have to navigate this alone.
